FIVE REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE CAVALIERS

I. TALENT – The instructional staff will evaluate your abilities on your instrument/equipment, your movement ability, your development and progress over a period of time based on specific criteria as outlined in the audition material.

II. FEES AND PAYMENTS – You need to demonstrate willingness and ability to fulfill the financial commitment as described in the audition information packet. We expect payments to be made in a timely manner. Any difficulties in adhering to the payment schedule must be discussed with corps management.

III. ATTENDANCE – You will be expected to attend all winter/spring camps required of your section. (See the full camp schedule.) When you attend an Audition Experience event, you should discuss with the staff any known events that conflict with camp dates. If you have a critical family or school conflict with a camp, notify your caption head(s), as well as the corps management (membership@cavaliers.org) as soon as you become aware of the issue. If we don’t hear from you, we consider the absence unexcused, which could negatively impact your membership status. You will need to clear your summer calendar of all conflicts.

IV. ATTITUDE – You will need to maintain a positive attitude in challenging circumstances. The hours are long and the work is hard. You will be asked to do things that you’ve never done and work harder than you probably ever have. Your ability to stay positive and focused will help you and those around you meet the challenges you’ll face.

V. HEALTH – You must be physically, mentally and emotionally able to withstand the rigorous requirements of practices, performances, and travel. A complete health history and sports physical are required. If you have ANY doubts about this program, please discuss your concerns with corps management and medical staff.

If you are new to the drum corps experience, then this may all sound overwhelming...and it can be.

Keep in mind that many thousands of individuals have successfully faced these challenges before you and found it to be one of the most rewarding times of their lives.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO CHALLENGE YOURSELF – YOU CAN DO THIS!

Financial obligations

Financial obligations

So...How much does it cost?

When you sign a Performing Member Contract with The Cavaliers, you agree to the financial obligations and payment schedule associated with that membership.

Bottom line – Drum corps is expensive and there is no silver bullet to pay your way. The Cavaliers will give our members multiple fundraising opportunities, but the organization expects performers to fulfill ALL financial obligations in a timely manner.

Don't wait until the last minute to start building your fundraising plan – You can do this!

AUDITION FEES

Prospective and Returning Members must pay a one-time annual Registration Fee ($50) plus an Audition Event Fee ($75-150) to audition for The Cavaliers. We strongly recommend attending just one (1) Audition Experience event.

Payment of both the Registration Fee and the Audition Event Fee are required to advance to the Call-Back stage. Both fees are non-refundable.

FAMILY & Friends

FAMILY & Friends

Your son is auditioning for one of the finest drum corps in the nation. If he earns a spot, this summer will probably be the most challenging of his life, and hopefully the most rewarding, as well. It will also be a ton of fun, and we want you to share in the excitement along with him!

The information here is intended to give you an overview of the organization.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS

Founded in 1948, The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization sponsored by The Village of Rosemont, Illinois, are one of the most successful drum and bugle corps in history, winning 20 national championships, including seven Drum Corps International world championships since 1992.

Each summer, 150 male brass, percussion and color guard performers aged 16-22 present a marching music show considered among the most challenging and original in the world.

OUR MISSION

The mission of The Cavaliers is to provide the members with life changing experiences, educationally and socially, which help each individual member gain real-world life skills, musical training and performance experiences.

The Cavaliers develop life-long leaders through the performing arts and inspire fans around the world.

SUMMER

Our season begins in mid-May with about 4 weeks of rehearsals (known as “pre-tour”). Rehearsals are typically 12 hours a day, every day. Members do get several blocks of free time and a couple opportunities to do their laundry. This is by far the most tedious and challenging portion of the season.

In mid-June we begin traveling and performing. We typically perform at approximately 30 shows throughout the country, ending with the Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championships in Indianapolis on the second Saturday in August.

TRAVEL

The Cavaliers typically drive about 10,000-13,000 miles each summer. We travel in five coach buses; three are for the members, one bus for the instructional staff, and one bus for our volunteers.

Our convoy also includes three semi–trailers. Two carry all of our uniforms and equipment and the third is a mobile kitchen used to prepare 4 meals a day for our 150 members plus staff and volunteers. It features a walk-in refrigerator and freezer, washer/dryer, a shower, and drink system that is the envy of DCI.

HEALTH & MEDICAL

The Cavaliers travel with a nursing staff at all times and have an extensive network of healthcare professionals to support our needs. Member safety, health, and well-being is the priority for our entire team..

All members are required to submit proof of a sports physical, a medical history form, and health insurance information to the medical staff.

If your son has special dietary needs, include that information in the Registration so that we may best accommodate his requirements.
